Christian Community

Strictly speaking the Christian Community isn’t an an Anthoposophical application of Steiner belief, but what exactly is it?

The Christian Community is an independent Christian denomination founded in 1922 with direct guidance from Rudolf Steiner. The first adherents were Lutheran ministers. The Christian Community describes itself as a Movement for Religious Renewal, drawing on Anthroposophy for its theology and ways of worship. Worship involves a set of seven “renewed” sacraments, celebrated in a heady liturgy that blends Christian symbolism with esoteric interpretations of Christ’s life and mission. Esoteric as in they incorporate Rudolf Steiner’s doctrines of reincarnation and karma – applied to the life of Jesus Christ. Many mainstream denominations do not recognize the Christian Community’s sacraments as valid.

Apart from looking at their finances I have done very little work on the Christian Community. Most of this Post draws on info within a really comprehensive wiki entry.

If you’d like, I can also give you a one‑sentence version for quick reference in your blog’s glossary or category intros. Would you like me to prepare that?
